OTA_Annoucement (pdf)
The Treasury Department's Office of Tax Analysis (OTA) is recruiting highly qualified economists with a Ph.D. or equivalent for positions on its staff. The attached announcement describes the positions available in more detail. I hope you will bring the announcement to the attention of your students or colleagues who might be interested in either a career or a visiting appointment in OTA.
The Office of Tax Analysis has long been the leading office in the Federal Government responsible for tax policy analysis and recommendations. Many renowned economists in the field of public finance have spent a portion of their careers in OTA. The work undertaken by OTA is interesting and challenging. Members of the staff deal regularly with theoretical, statistical, and institutional issues that are fundamental to the development of all aspects of federal tax policy. Empirical public finance economists at OTA have access to more and better data about the United States tax system than are available anywhere else. In addition to internal analyses feeding directly into the policy development process, OTA staff members have opportunities for outside research. OTA maintains an active writing paper series, and staff members are encouraged to present papers at conferences and submit them for publication in professional journals.
Representatives from the Office of Tax Analysis will be interviewing candidates at the Allied Social Science Associations meetings in Boston on January 7-9, 2005. Interested students and colleagues who are U.S. citizens are invited to submit a resume and research writing sample via e-mail; three recommendations should be sent directly from recommenders via e-mail or fax. Materials and inquiries should be addressed to me at:
Dr. Donald Kiefer, Director
Office of Tax Analysis

The Max Weber Fellowships of the new EUI Programme are open to candidates who have recently received their doctorates in economics, social and political sciences, law or history and who wish to pursue a career nationally or internationally as future academics. Fellowships are granted for 12 or 24 months with a view to better preparing successful candidates for advanced research and teaching in a context of the growing Europeanisation and internationalisation of university education. Fellows will have the opportunity to work in close cooperation with the departments of the EUI and with its interdisciplinary centre, the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. In order to ensure full benefit from close association with the departments and the Centre, priority will be given to candidates whose profiles fit closely with existing interests and orientations.
