His charming account of his early life, education and career is evocative of the author's personal qualities.

It also contains historical recollections and reflections that will be of particular interest to economists, including chapters recounting Abramovitz's experience with Wesley Mitchell, Simon Kuznets and Arthur Burns at the NBER, his work for the War Production Board in the early 1940's and the postwar Reparations Commission in Europe.
